The Treatment of Trochanteric Fracture Using a Condylar Plate

Abstract
The prime objective in treating the unstable trochanteric fracture is to achieve bony stability at the fracture site using an appropriate fixation nail plate to maintain a stabilized position. Surgical management became the most accepted method of treatment of trochanteric fracture, but it¢¥s technique and selecting fixation device are still debatable.
We performed operative management of trochanteric fracture of the hip using condyear plate in 29 cases.
The results were as following.
1. Of 29 trochanteric fractures, 27 cases were good and 2 cases were failed, the one was protrused nail, the other was plastic deformation after removal of the plate.
2. In sex distribution, 17 out of 29 were males and 12 were females, average age was 52 years old, the range 16 years to 83 years old.
3. The average period of bone union was 16 weeks, the range from 9 weeks to 24 weeks, 3 patients with bone union after 9 weeks who were all under 20 years old.
4. 4. Condylar plate is a good internal fixtion device to treat trochanteric fracture.
